Online shopping saves money? I am not crazy, it's true and I will share how this new free service will save us money!
This post is a review of our recent change in how we shop! We were not paid to do this review or shop at this establishment; we just wanted to share our experience! Our local Wal-Mart has just started an online grocery service. With this service, you can order your groceries online and then schedule a pickup time to drive up for a grocery pickup all for free! I was very excited to see how it all works as I was also curious as to what would be available since we purchase a lot of off-brand products. I wondered if this would truly be a time saver and if I would still be able to purchase the cheaper products.
This is how it worked:
1. I placed my order online. You can use their website or their app.
2. Scheduled my pick-up day and time.
3. "Checked in" on their grocery app before I left to let them know I was coming.
4. Pulled up to the designated area, they put my groceries in my car, and I was on my way home.
(if someone does come out right away, you can call the number on the sign)
It was that easy!!!! Normally a trip to the store will take over an hour and I end up buying stuff that I do not necessarily need even though I am a frugal shopper. My pick-up time was 8 am and I was leaving the parking lot at 8:15 am. We chatted for a minute or two about this new service so I think my time there would have been even less!
A lot of people dog on Wal-Mart but it is usually a one-stop shopping trip for me and I always find the lowest prices for the size and quantity of the product compared to other stores. My time is valuable and I hate wasting an hour or two doing my weekly grocery shopping. Using this service will keep our spending in check by only ordering what we need versus seeing something on the shelf that I "have to have". For example, if my kids are with me, I get suckered in sometimes to buying "turkey bites" or a drink that my son loves off the end cap at the checkout line. Shopping when you are hungry can lead to random items landing in your cart that you do not normally purchase! The clearance aisle!!!!! Just because it is on clearance, does not mean I am saving money because it is probably something that I do not even need!
I bet you are curious about what you can order and I will tell you everything that almost everything I normally pick up, including fresh meat, fresh fruit/veggies, and all of the off brand products that I purchase in that particular store were available! The fresh fruit and cilantro that I ordered was ripe and in great shape! I was told that the workers were trained on how to pick out the highest quality in fresh products. For the fresh chicken breast that I ordered, it only showed a family package at $11.94. Normally I buy a smaller package that cost around $8-$9. They gave me a package that was $8.94 and my final bill was adjusted to account for this lower price. If they do not have a product that you ordered, they will substitute it with no extra charge even if the product cost more. When they pull your order, they will keep everything that needs to be cold in a cooler specifically for the grocery pickup service.
The workers were extremely nice and everything went smoothly! I was the first customer of the day on the second day of this new service and when I arrived they gave me a welcome bag with samples and a $20 gift card!!!! You will get an initial $10 off your order and then when you refer someone and they use the service, you get another $10 off!
I can only imagine all the people that this service can benefit! Not only will it save you money, you do not have to get out of your car; you just roll up and let them do the work! I would highly recommend this to a new mom, mom with small children, if you are sick or have a sick child with you, someone who is disabled or has an injury, the elderly, etc.
